AEG Management CT announced Monday that it will take over management of Hartford’s Connecticut Whale minor league hockey team, just a few weeks after the team cut ties with Howard Baldwin’s management group.
AEG Management, which also manages the XL Center, where the Connecticut Whale plays its home games, will manage all business operations, including marketing, sponsorship, ticketing and group sales for the team.
AEG said it will work directly with Madison Square Garden Sports to ensure business operations remain uninterrupted in Hartford. The Whale are the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s New York Rangers, hockey operations for the team will remain unchanged.
Chuck Steedman, XL Center senior vice president and general manager said, “We want to assure fans that AEG will continue to work tirelessly so that professional hockey has a future in Hartford. We are unequivocally dedicated to the ticket holders, community partners, and sponsors that support the Connecticut Whale.”
Despite the new management team, the future of the Connecticut Whale in Hartford remains uncertain. The Whale’s lease with the XL Center expires after tnext season, and ins unclear if they will continue to play in Hartoford after that. Meanwhile, AEG’s lease to run the XL Center also expires next year.
