ADP: CT second worst in April job growth

Among states tracked by payroll services provider ADP, Connecticut showed the lowest job growth from March to April. New England states as a whole didn’t fare much better.

The monthly ADP Regional Employment Report, issued today, showed Connecticut added 600 jobs for a net gain of .04 percent. The six New England states added 5,000 jobs for a net employment increase of .08 percent. Nationally, jobs increased by 156,000 month to month.

Maryland was the worst state among the 29 states and the District of Columbia included in the report. It showed a net job decrease of.05 percent.

“The growth of high-quality tech jobs has helped the West,” said Ahu Yildirmaz, vice president and head of the ADP Research Institute, which released the report. “Hiring has been concentrated in mid- and high-wage industries, which also has a positive impact on housing prices, construction and other facets of the regional economy.”
