The Anti-Defamation League recently honored UConn Health’s Dr. Cato Laurencin with the Torch of Liberty Award, which celebrates people who carry on a tradition of community service.
Laurencin is the CEO of the Connecticut Institute for Clinical and Translational Science. An award-winning orthopedic surgeon and engineer, he has been recognized for his work by Scientific American and National Geographic. He has received the Presidential Faculty Fellowship Award from Bill Clinton and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring from President Barack Obama.
Wireless Zone Named to Franchise Times’ Top 200 List
Middletown retail franchise Wireless Zone has been selected by Franchise Times as the 145th top-ranked franchise in the United States. Franchise Times’ rankings are based on sales across all company and franchised units. This is the second straight year Wireless Zone has been named in the Top 200 listing.
Wireless Zone is a Verizon Wireless retail franchisor that sells smartphones, tablets, mobile technology, GPS, wireless data devices, pre-paid cellular and other smart devices.
St. Francis Receives Recognition for Excellence in Orthopedics
Becker’s Hospital Review has included St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in its 2014 edition of the “125 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Orthopedic Programs.”
St. Francis is one of only two healthcare facilities in Connecticut to make the list. Hospitals are considered to have “exceptional” orthopedic departments if they have physicians who provide outstanding care to patients, author front-line orthopedic research, and treat pro athletes.
CT’s Captive Insurance Program Named Among Best in Nation
The Connecticut Insurance Department’s captive insurance program has been named one of the best in the nation by Captive Review. Out of the 37 states and U.S. territories that allow captives, Connecticut was ranked the second leading domicile in the magazine’s U.S. Captive Service Awards. The annual awards recognize captive industry professionals who have demonstrated the highest levels of excellence over the past year.
