Bill Knight, principal and chief marketing officer of integrated marketing firm Adams & Knight in Avon, was recently inducted into the Advertising Club of Connecticut’s Hall of Fame. With more than 30 years in the advertising industry, Knight oversees the creative work at the agency. He has contributed to projects ranging from Fortune 500 products to nonprofit initiatives.
Lux Bond head named to chairman role
John Green, president and CEO of Lux Bond & Green Jewelers, was recently named chairman of the board of governors of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Green has served on the GIA board since 2008 and on the executive committee and as chair of the laboratory committee since 2010. Lux Bond & Green, a family-owned jeweler established in 1898, has eight stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts employing over 100 people. Green currently sits on the boards of Jewelers for Children, the Travelers Championship Foundation, St. Francis Hospital Foundation and the Connecticut Business and Industry Association.
McPhee Electric CEO named fellow
Michael McPhee, CEO of McPhee Electric Ltd. In Farmington, was recently recognized by the National Electrical Contracting Association with induction as a new fellow in the Academy of Electrical Contracting. The Academy honors leaders in the electrical contracting field in order to preserve the wealth of experience and ability these leaders have developed through their years of service in the construction industry.
Bus company president honored for sustainability
John DuFour, president of All-Star Transportation in Waterbury, has been named a ‘Sustainability All-Star’ by Green Fleet magazine based on his efforts in “greening” the company’s fleet of school buses. This year, All-Star Transportation became the first school bus company in Connecticut to purchase propane-driven vehicles. The company’s entire fleet of 51 buses is now running on more environmentally friendly propane gas. Along with propane-fueled school buses, All-Star Transportation also utilizes a half dozen hybrid vehicles for its bus safety monitoring operations, and the company recycles all waste fluids from its diesel vehicles and uses the fluids to heat its three maintenance facilities.
Pita Group works earns national awards
The Plan Sponsor Council of America has recognized MassMutual Retirement Services with several awards for work done in partnership with The Pita Group, a Rocky Hill full-service integrated marketing agency. The awards recognize an online retirement video series and annual direct mail and email campaign produced by Pita. The annual RetireSmart campaign educates recipients on the benefits of enrolling in a retirement plan, increasing savings, examining their allocation strategy or consolidating accounts. Visuals and messaging are targeted to address recipients’ specific life stage. For the 2012 campaign, QR codes on the direct mail pieces led to relevant “Did you know?” retirement facts on a responsive microsite.
CIC’s Cousineau earns accolade
Mark Cousineau, president of Community Investment Corp., was recently honored with the Kenneth L. Roberts Developer of the Year Award by the Northeastern Economic Developers Association. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the field and to NEDA.
