Acme United repaid $1.74M on site sale

Acme United Corp. collected $1.74 million from a mortgage the Fairfield home-office-school supplies maker issued on the sale of a Bridgeport property five years ago.

Fairfield County beverage distributor B&E Juices Inc. bought the former factory site for $2.5 million in 2008. Acme United said it financed $2 million of the sale price, and assumed the obligation for environmental remediation of the site, in accordance with state law.

Acme CEO Walter C. Johnson said his company will continue monitoring the site for two years, before filing the appropriate paperwork for completion of the project.

ACME makes cutting, measuring and safety products for the school, home, office, hardware and industrial markets. Its l brands include Westcott, Clauss, Camillus, PhysiciansCare and Pac-Kit.

B&E distributes bottled waters and soft drinks, including Coke, Pepsi, Snapple and Vitamin water.
