Global accounting firm RSM US LLP says it has officially opened its new offices in downtown Hartford’s Goodwin Square.
RSM, the fifth largest accounting firm in the U.S. by revenue, signed a lease last September for 11,000 square feet on the 23rd floor of the 225 Asylum St. tower. RSM’s space, which has been renovated, is opening on schedule.
It was one of the largest new office leases signed in the city during 2020, a year in which office vacancy rates rose and many leasing decisions were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
RSM, which has about 300 Connecticut employees, said upwards of 85 will be based out of its new Hartford space, most of them from the firm’s New Haven office.
Sue Martinelli, leader of the New Haven office, will now lead the Hartford office.
“We’re excited about moving into our modern office space in an exciting area and to begin a new chapter of RSM’s history in Hartford,” Martinelli said in a statement Tuesday. “We’re looking forward to continuing to serve the unique needs of growing middle market companies and to collaborating within the local business community.
While Gov. Ned Lamont recently lifted COVID-19 restrictions on offices and other types of facilities, many employees across the state are still working from home.
RSM said Tuesday it is “slowly transitioning back into the office” but that many employees will likely have a hybrid schedule moving forward.
Many top 10 accounting firms already have a presence in Hartford, including market leader PwC. Like many other sectors, the region’s accounting industry has seen steady consolidation over the years, the most recent example of which was CliftonLarsonAllen’s absorption of West Hartford-based blumshapiro, finalized in January.
