Accounting giant Grant Thornton LLP for the first time ever is planting its flag in Connecticut.
The Chicago firm announced Thursday that it has reached a deal to acquire Boston-based CCR LLP, an accounting and advisory firm with offices in Glastonbury, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
The deal doubles the size of Grant Thornton’s New England presence, including the addition of the 45 accounting professionals who currently work for CCR in Greater Hartford.
Scott Levy, Grant Thornton’s New England managing partner, told HBJ Today that the firm has been eyeing Greater Hartford for years and now plans to compete with the Big 4 accounting firms and regional players for clients and talent.
Levy said Grant Thornton plans to expand its newly acquired Greater Hartford office in Glastonbury to up to 70 employees within two years.
The firm could also add an office in Fairfield County.
David A. Platt, who was CCR’s managing partner, will now become Grant Thornton’s assistant managing partner in New England.Â
As part of the deal, Grant Thornton will add about 140 professionals.
