With open enrollment complete, the state’s insurance exchange Access Health CT tallied 111,524 members enrolled, about 4,500 less than for the 2016 enrollment year.
Those are the latest figures since 2017 open enrollment ended on Jan. 31, according to Access Health CEO Jim Wadleigh and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, who chairs the state exchange’s board of directors.
Of the new total, 13,791 are first-time customers.
The overall reduction, Wadleigh and Wyman said, may be due to an increase in residents insured through other types of healthcare coverage or off-exchange, or an increase in uninsured residents; results are not yet clear.
In addition, 5,000 people came through Access Health seeking dental coverage and 1,467 enrolled in health coverage through the Small Business Program.
“These numbers represent a fairly stable enrollment cycle and demonstrate the importance of the state’s marketplace in getting residents covered,” said Wyman.
Connecticut expects to conduct a survey later this year to determine the state’s overall uninsured rate.
