The Connecticut insurance exchange Access Health CT is reaching out to 5,784 customers who were incorrectly assigned the wrong subsidy, which may have mistakenly negated their eligibility.
The exchange was running into problems whenever a change was made to a customer’s account for items like address changes or income changes, the information for that customer’s government subsidy was not transferred to the insurance carrier, said Kathleen Tallarita, spokeswoman for Access Health CT.
Because the subsidy was not transferred, the impacted customers were hit will bills from their insurance companies that were significantly higher than previous ones where their subsidy was included. The error also caused 903 customers to be wrongly dropped by their insurers, Tallarita said.
The exchange put a filter on its system earlier this week to prevent the problem from continuing and is getting a permanent fix in place on July 18.
