Access Health CT attracts over 15k in new signups

Over 15,214 new Connecticut customers have enrolled in private healthcare coverage through Access Health CT, since the latest open enrollment period kicked off Nov. 1. The new enrollment numbers are trending slightly higher than last year’s at this time.

As of Jan. 20, 2016, Access Health CT had 108,830 customers who were enrolled in private health plans (QHP) and 238,178 applications who were processed through Access Health CT into Medicaid.

Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, who chairs Access Health CT’s board, said in a statement that the state’s uninsured rate has halved since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. “With the end of open enrollment just over a week away, we are urging people to sign up now to ensure coverage as quickly as possible,” she said.

Customers who enroll in healthcare coverage before the deadline will avoid federal tax penalties and may be eligible for federal tax credits. Residents who are not able to provide proof of insurance when filing taxes will have to pay a penalty of $695, or 2.5 percent of their household income, whichever is greater.
