Access Health adds 1,400 uninsureds, extends special COVID-19 enrollment period

As the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic continues toward an anticipated surge in the coming days, Connecticut’s Obamacare health insurance exchange is allowing more people to enroll outside of the usual window.

Access Health CT said Thursday that it enrolled nearly 1,400 people over the past two weeks during a special enrollment period aimed at uninsured residents.

Now, that special enrollment period has been extended to April 17. The only way to sign up is by calling 1-855-365-2428.

Coverage acquired between April 3 and April 17 will be effective May 1.

“We know there are still many Connecticut residents who need our assistance,” Access Health CEO James Michel said in a statement. “I am deeply appreciative of the efforts by the governor, carriers, Connecticut Insurance Department, and others to make sure more people have access to health insurance during the COVID-19 crisis.”
