AAA Travel projects 1.65 million people from Connecticut and the rest of New England will journey at least 50 miles for Labor Day, a 3 percent increase from the holiday in 2011.
The regional travel Thursday through Monday is better than the national average, where AAA predicts 33 million will travel, a 2.9 percent increase from last year.
The most popular destination for people visiting the West Hartford AAA office are North Carolina, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Cape Cod, and the Connecticut shoreline, according to Jennifer Shorette, supervisor of AAA’s West Hartford office.
With travel plans already set, AAA doesn’t believe Tropical Storm Isaac’s impact on gasoline prices will reduce travel plans, as consumers will seek savings elsewhere in travel budgets, such as dining and shopping.
