A West Hartland entrepreneur is planning to transform a vacant, brick office building in Hartford’s Blue Hill’s neighborhood into an affordable conference and events center.
Vincent Lloyd Thompson, of West Hartland, purchased a 5,349-square-foot, 1956-vintage office building on 1 acre at 25 Cornwall St., from Brooklyn-based Shelbourne Global Solutions for $250,000 in early 2024.
Shelbourne, Hartford’s largest landlord and a developer of large-scale projects, had purchased the property in 2021, planning a modest, 12-lot subdivision.
A Shelbourne representative, last year, said the company sold the property after it became clear the community did not support its plan to build affordable housing there.
Thompson is seeking a zone change from the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
The Vincent Lloyd Conference Center will be an affordable venue for community gatherings, business meetings, weddings, educational events and other functions, according to the application.
