900 re-enroll in CT colleges

Connecticut’s new initiative to train the workforce – Go Back to Get Ahead – has re-enrolled 900 residents to complete their associate or bachelor’s degree at one of the 17 state colleges and universities.

Following legislative approval, Go Back to Get Ahead launched June 2 to offer three free courses to students who had started degree programs but stopped for one reason or another.

The initiative was designed to prepare the Connecticut workforce for an evolving economy where 70 percent of jobs will require a college degree by 2020. It also helped boost enrollment in the struggling state university system and provided the opportunity for re-enrollees to find better paying jobs.

To date, more than 54,000 people have visited the program’s website; 6,600 residents have completed an online inquiry; 3,660 have been referred to a state college or university; 1,411 have applied to one of those schools; and 942 have enrolled for the fall semester.
