74-unit senior housing complex approved in Bristol

A developer has won approval to build a senior housing complex in Bristol near the Plainville border with more than 70 apartments for residents 55 and older.

Eastwood Meadows LLC is proposing an age-restricted development at 385 Camp St., containing 74 units on more than 6.3 acres of mostly wooded, undeveloped land. Camp Street is a main artery in town, located partially in Bristol and Plainville.

The location is in a residential zone, with an adjacent church property and nearby single-family homes, multi-family condominiums and the Plainville campgrounds.

The three-story building would be 102,520 square feet, containing 74 two-bedroom, market-rate apartments.

The development calls for 82 parking spaces with up to nine additional spaces if needed.

Developers from Eastwood Meadows LLC said there is a need for this development in Bristol as currently there are 1,160 approved elderly housing units, of which 290, or roughly 25% are not yet built.

The Zoning Commission approved the site plan at its May meeting.

Eastwood Meadows bought the property in early 2023 for an undisclosed amount from Gloria Dei Evangelical Lutheran Church Inc.
