72-unit Mariners Point apartments planned in East Haven

A housing developer is proposing a multi-unit apartment building in East Haven.

Branford-based Vigliotti Construction Co. is looking to build the Mariners Point apartments at 71 South Shore Drive, a 3.14-acre parcel of vacant land owned by the applicant.

The proposed 84,200-square-foot building would have 72 units total, with 47 one-bedrooms and 25 two-bedrooms over four stories with parking for 134 vehicles.

The building would include a lobby, utility room and fitness center, along with a fourth-floor club room and roof deck.

Plans for this vacant land date back almost 20 years. A residential application was first approved as a Planned Development District (PDD) in 2004, allowing for 68 residential units. 

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved a PDD modification in 2006, allowing for an increase in the number of units from 68 to 72. 

The previous owner, Paradigm East Haven, was not able to start the development due to economic conditions, the application reads. 

Vigliotti acquired the property in 2013 and is now requesting the commission re-approve the site plan from 2006.  

The application will go to a public hearing before the Planning and Zoning Commission on June 7.
