Fairfield officials have approved, with conditions, a five-story, 68-unit apartment complex proposed under the state’s affordable housing law.
Easton developer Stephen Shapiro plans to construct the building on a 1.67-acre parcel at 430 and 452 Stillson Road, according to plans filed with the town. It will contain 32 one-bedroom units and 36 two-bedroom units, 21 of which will be designated as affordable under state affordable housing statute 8-30g.
A single-family home on the property will be turned into an apartment.
The town’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved the application by a 5-0 vote, but with conditions that required assigned parking, a concrete sidewalk in front of the building and lighting at a level that will not disturb neighbors or wildlife.
They also stipulated, among other things, that a curb area be modified so that a deeper left turn lane for Stillson Road onto Black Rock Turnpike can be installed with cooperation with the town and state Department of Transportation.
“The conditions are reasonable,” Shapiro told the Hartford Business Journal.
He said that he originally planned to build an approved four-building, three-story housing complex of 19 townhouses, but that plan was appealed by a neighbor.
The town has been under a four-year moratorium on 8-30g applications since April.
