Hartford-based Capital Workforce Partners, which coordinates workforce programs for the state, will receive $6.7 million from the U.S. Department of Labor to help the long-term unemployed find work, the federal agency announced Wednesday.
In all, the DOL awarded nearly $170 million in grants to entities in 20 states and Puerto Rico. New Haven’s Workforce Alliance Inc. received $5.5 million.
The grants are a part of the DOL’s ‘Ready to Work Partnership,’ which uses funds from H-1B visa fees to support collaborations between companies, nonprofits and federal job training programs to connect the unemployed to open positions.
Capital Workforce and the other grant awardees will work to recruit the long-term unemployed, offer training and support services, career coaches, interview training and other services, DOL said.
