Connecticut workers received a major shot in the arm ahead of Labor Day.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy on Friday reported the state Department of Labor compensated workers $4.9 million in unpaid wages from fiscal year 2017-18.
The state’s labor unit recovered over $2.2 million for 1,184 employees amid complaints received by wage enforcement staff that owed wages were not yet paid. More than $1.9 million was sent to 1,813 employees who did not receive their allotted minimum wage or overtime, and $687,324 was recovered for 1,233 employees who were paid incorrect amounts.
The labor department said it investigated over 2,300 claims of unpaid work, 250 cases in minimum wage or overtime complaints and another 240 cases involving workplace standards violations. Almost 170 “stop-work” orders were issued to employers that did not comply with compensation requirements or those that did not log accurate pay records.
