Bridgeport’s Barnum Museum has gotten a $40,000 grant from a Fairfield County nonprofit to hire an architect to identify the extent of damage from the June 24 tornado that hit the city.
The grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation will match a $100,000 endangered building grant received from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism to pay for the work.
The city owns the original museum building listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is being considered for National Historic Landmark designation by the National Parks and Department of Interior.
