Four Connecticut museums have been selected to share part of a $40 million national grant program being underwritten by the Art Bridges Foundation, founded by Alice Walton, an heir to the Walmart fortune.
The “Access for All” grants, which range from $56,000 to more than $2 million, according to NPR, will go to 64 art institutions across the country.
Connecticut museums that have been chosen for grant funding include the Fairfield University Art Museum, Mattatuck Museum, New Britain Museum of Art and Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford.
It wasn’t immediately clear how much money each Connecticut museum will receive.
Each museum will have the opportunity to use the funds to develop tailored programming specifically for their communities, according to the foundation.
Uses can include underwriting free admission on a designated “Access for All Day;” partnering with local transit agencies and community centers to facilitate free and accessible transportation; and designing interdisciplinary and culturally responsive programs relevant to community interest, among other options.
