Final touches are going up on the $36.7 million Glastonbury-East Hartford Elementary Magnet School that debuts Aug. 28, authorities say.
The 67,000-square-foot structure at 95 Oak St. in Glastonbury replaces the old school at 305 Main St. in East Hartford.
The state-of-the-art facility is a partnership of both town’s school systems, in collaboration with the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC), officials said.
In addition to classrooms that will eventually house 435 pupils, the new building features a planetarium as part of the school’s extensive collaboration with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and its designation as a NASA Explorer School.
The Glastonbury-East Hartford Elementary Magnet School will continue to emphasize science, technology, and global studies.
The Aug. 28 ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at the school with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m.
