More than two dozen Connecticut-headquartered companies have earned spots on TIME’s newly released ranking of America’s Best Companies of 2026, led by Bloomfield health insurer Cigna at No. 4 nationally.
The list, produced in partnership with the research firm Statista, names the 1,000 highest-scoring firms in the country. Connecticut’s representation stretches across insurance, manufacturing, finance and technology.
Cigna posted an overall score of 92.99, the highest of any Connecticut company and the fourth-highest in the nation, trailing only NVIDIA, Apple and Salesforce. Norwalk-based Booking Holdings followed at No. 16, and Hartford Financial Services Group came in at No. 48, giving the state three companies in the national top 50.
Stamford research and advisory firm Gartner ranked No. 79, and Wallingford electronics maker Amphenol rounded out Connecticut’s top five at No. 109.
Eversource Energy, the region’s largest utility, made the list at No. 244. TIME lists the company’s headquarters as Massachusetts, but Eversource operates dual headquarters in Hartford and Boston and delivers electricity and natural gas to more than 4 million customers across Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
TIME and Statista evaluated companies in three areas: employee satisfaction, financial performance and sustainability transparency. Employee satisfaction was measured through surveys of roughly 217,000 workers at U.S. companies over the past three years, according to Eversource’s account of the methodology. Financial performance and sustainability transparency were assessed using publicly available business and environmental, social and governance metrics.
Both public companies and private companies that report their financial and sustainability data were eligible.
TIME noted that this year’s edition weighs the strength of financial performance more heavily than raw revenue growth, a change that reshaped some rankings. The magazine cited Apple, which placed No. 2 nationally despite being left off its 2025 World’s Best Companies list after a revenue dip between 2022 and 2024.
Beyond the top five, Connecticut’s list leans heavily on industrial and financial firms.
Otis Elevator, the Farmington-based maker of elevators and escalators, ranked No. 210, followed closely by Stamford consumer-finance company Synchrony at No. 216 and Shelton electrical-products manufacturer Hubbell at No. 224. Stamford equipment-rental company United Rentals came in at No. 233, and Greenwich insurer WR Berkley placed No. 254.
The middle of the state’s list is dominated by engineering and manufacturing names: Terex at No. 277, EMCOR Group at No. 304, Hexcel at No. 345, Crane Company at No. 389, Xerox at No. 415 and Silgan Holdings at No. 571. New Britain toolmaker Stanley Black & Decker landed at No. 657.
Connecticut’s logistics sector showed up through two Greenwich-based carriers, XPO at No. 387 and GXO Logistics at No. 442. Webster Bank, based in Stamford, ranked No. 309.
Rounding out the state’s entries were Shelton personal-care company Edgewell at No. 425, financial-technology firm SS&C Technologies at No. 879, Stamford’s Pitney Bowes at No. 898 and Orange-based utility Avangrid at No. 913.
