$22.7M for CT public housing

Nearly three dozen Connecticut housing authorities will share $22.7 million in funding to make capital improvements to public housing developments, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced.

Hartford will receive just over $2 million, while New Britain will receive about $1 million, HUD said. Meriden is in line for $696,000 and Glastonbury was awarded $307,000.

Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra said the city will use its funds to improve approximately 1,000 apartments, including those in Smith Tower, Betty Knox Apartments, Kent Apartments and Mary Mahoney Village.

Connecticut’s grant is a part of an overall $1.77 billion HUD investment under its capital fund program.
