Saluting Connecticut’s Health Care Heroes
Heroes work tirelessly and selflessly, going well beyond the call of duty to make a real difference in the lives of others. They do what they do, not for the glory or public recognition, but because they are notably passionate about their work. As a result, they make the lives of others immeasurably healthier and better.
Such are the individuals featured in this issue of the Hartford Business Journal, recipients of our 2008 Health Care Heroes awards.
All of our heroes touch the lives of countless families. One is focused on treating asthma in children. Another is a case manager who has devoted herself to helping those who are suffering, and hopes that the people now entering the nursing field don’t forget that compassion will be the key to their success.
We also are honoring an individual who understands that caring for those with disabilities requires long-term commitment. And there’s one who notes that economic metrics can never measure the provision of caring, supporting medicine.
In addition, we are also profiling a hero who sees the availability of affordable health care for all as a vital need of our modern society. Finally, there is the health care leader who was taught and still firmly believes that a civilized society takes care of those who can’t fend for themselves.
Please join us in saluting Connecticut’s 2008 Health Care Heroes, each epitomizing the word “hero” in every sense of the word.
We’d like to express gratitude to our judges — Dr. Scott Wetstone, Patricia Baker and Dr. Meg Levvis — for taking time out of their busy schedules to help us select the winners from a very worthy and lengthy list of nominees. (Read more about the judges)
Another thank you goes out to our graphic department — headed by Lynn Mika, with Christopher Wallace and Kecia Shaw — for designing this special pull-out section.
