2 Hartford hotels settle rate-fixing charges

Connecticut’s attorney general says he’s reached a settlement with two downtown Hartford hotels, plus a third in Waterbury, and a hotel management company over his accusations that they fixed room rates, The Associated Press reports.

Attorney General George Jepsen said Thursday he reached a settlement with two related companies, McSam Hotel Group LLC and Metro Ten Hotel LLC, both of Great Neck, N.Y., and Jamsan Hotel Management Inc. of Lexington, Mass.

He said McSam’s Holiday Inn Express and Homewood Suite hotels — both on Asylum Street downtown — and Metro Ten’s Holiday Inn Express in Waterbury shared information at least once a day about occupancy and room rates to fix rates. Fixing rates violates the state’s antitrust and Unfair Trade Practices Act.

The hotels did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

Jepsen said the companies did not admit liability. The settlement requires the companies to pay a combined $50,000 civil penalty and stop the practice.
