One million dollars for the City of Newington’s Market Street project is expected to be approved when the State Bond Commission meets May 30.
The $1 million will help fund the redesign and reconfiguration of the Market Street Parking Lot in the center of Newington. The project includes parking lot enhancements, drainage improvements, new sidewalks, underground utilities and a green in the middle of the square to serve as a gathering place for community functions.
“This funding will make this part of town the epicenter for economic development and an even more inviting destination for residents and visitors to Newington,” Newington Mayor, Jeff Wright, said in a statement. “There is so much potential in our town center and we will now have the resources to achieve the full potential of Market Square.”
