$1.8M in STEAP grants to five CT towns

Five more Connecticut towns — Clinton, Deep River, Griswold and Montville — received $1.78 million in Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grants for capital improvement projects, the governor’s office says.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy visited each town Wednesday to announce their grant awards.

Montville was awarded $500,000 for the design of a culvert on Montville Road at Trading Cove Brook.

Griswold was also awarded $500,000 for drainage and resurfacing projects on Geer and Lily Pond Roads.

A $400,000 STEAP grant to Clinton will go to downtown streetscape revitalization efforts.

Deep River was awarded $200,000 for Phase 5 of a Main Street improvement initiative. The funding will be used to replace blacktop and install lighting and benches.

Two awards were granted to Branford. The first, for $150,000. will aid the town in completing a pedestrian walkway and adding lighting to the town green.

Branford also received a $30,000 grant for a housing feasibility study so the Branford Housing Authority and planning body can assess the town’s future housing needs.

On Tuesday, the governor announced STEAP grants of $469,000 to Putnam and $150,000 to Thompson.
