City officials on Thursday celebrated the opening of a new 166-unit mixed-use residential complex on a long-vacant lot in Downtown New Haven.
Developed by the Article Student Living company, The Archive is a two-building multifamily complex with 166 new housing units and 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space at 848 Chapel St.
Units range from studio apartments up to three-bedroom units.
Residents started moving into The Archive in the spring, and officials with the development and leasing team said the building is roughly 35% leased.
According to Apartments.com, units are currently leasing with monthly rents ranging from $2,049 to $4,899. Available apartments range in size from 387 square feet to 1,294 square feet, according to Apartments.com.
The project site was previously jointly owned by the city of New Haven and a private owner.
This project is part of a larger effort to continue revitalizing the 800 block of Chapel Street, located between Orange and Church streets.
Work also included a new streetscape and off-street parking areas along the Chapel Street commercial corridor.Â
Since 2020, more than 2,000 new housing units have been built in New Haven and an additional 3,500 new units are currently in the pipeline, of which an estimated 40% will be affordable.
