Federal, state and local grants worth $1.5 million will be used to make significant renovations to Hartford’s Colt Park, according to the governor.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Thursday the park will be upgraded through a $750,000 federal grant from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), a $450,000 state grant and a $300,000 grant from the city.
The funds will be used to improve the park’s baseball field, renovate the north walkway access to the field, play areas and the soccer pavilion. Other improvements include installing two new softball fields and basketball courts and completing the park’s loop road.
“These important upgrades to Colt Park not only bring about an improved experience for residents, it will pave the way for more people to visit and enjoy Hartford,” Malloy said.
The grant will pair with $10 million the state bond commission recently approved for upgrades at adjacent Dillon Stadium. Promoters are working to bring a United Soccer League franchise to the stadium in spring 2019.
Situated on Wethersfield Avenue, the park was gifted to the city in 1905.
