Fifteen Connecticut companies appear on Fortune’s 2026 list of the 500 largest U.S. companies by revenue, reflecting the state’s continued strength in insurance, financial services and advanced manufacturing — even as its corporate roster has contracted over the years.
Cigna, the Bloomfield-based health services giant, led the state’s contingent at No. 13 with $274.9 billion in revenue, making it by far Connecticut’s highest-ranked company and one of the largest corporations in the country.
Charter Communications of Stamford came in at No. 84 with $54.8 billion, followed by tobacco conglomerate Philip Morris International, also headquartered in Stamford, at No. 114 with $40.6 billion.
The Hartford Financial Services Group ranked 156th with $28.4 billion in revenue, the lone representative from Hartford.
Norwalk’s Booking Holdings, parent of the travel platform, checked in at No. 162 with $26.9 billion, and Wallingford-based Amphenol, the connector and sensor manufacturer, landed at No. 192 with $23.1 billion.
The remaining nine companies spanned a range of industries: EMCOR Group and United Rentals, both with Fairfield County ties, came in at 258 and 272 respectively.
New Britain-based Stanley Black & Decker ranked 294th with $15.1 billion in revenue.
Greenwich had four companies — W.R. Berkley at 303, GXO Logistics at 328, XPO at 469 and brokerage firm Interactive Brokers at 499.
Farmington’s Otis Worldwide rounded out the middle of the pack at No. 308, and Stamford’s Synchrony Financial landed at 414.
Stamford and Greenwich each placed four companies on the list, showing lower Fairfield County’s role as Connecticut’s corporate anchor.
This is the third consecutive year that the same 15 Connecticut companies have made the list.
Aetna, once among Hartford’s signature companies, dropped from the list after it was subsumed into Rhode Island-based CVS Health — which ranks No. 5 nationally — in 2018.
The Fortune 500, now in its 72nd year, ranks the largest U.S. companies by revenue. This year’s list marks a notable milestone: Amazon has ended Walmart’s 13-year run at No. 1.
