15 CT businesses listed in Fortune magazine’s Top 500

Bloomfield-based Cigna received the highest ranking among the 15 Connecticut companies listed in Fortune magazine’s Top 500 largest U.S. businesses, which was released Monday.

Cigna, one of the largest health insurers in the world, ranked No. 13. It was followed by Charter Communications in Stamford, which came in 64th, seven points above last year’s ranking.

Cigna, which has more than 74,000 employees, generated $160.4 billion in revenue in 2021. Charter generated $48 billion.

Wallingford-based Amphenol, an electronics manufacturer, made the biggest jump, increasing 37 spots to 349.

Frontier Communications (402) dropped nine spots from last year’s rankings.

Booking Holdings (424) in Norwalk, a travel booking company, dropped more points than any other company — 214 points from to the 424th spot.

Meanwhile, Synchrony Financial (187) dropped 17 points, United Rentals (352) lost 12 points and Xerox Holdings (415) fell 68.

Hartford Financial Services rose 18 points, to 142; XPO Logistics rose six points to 291; Stanley Black & Decker increased 11 to 209 and W.R. Berkley increased 30 to 372.

The largest company on the list was Walmart, which has topped the rankings for the last decade, followed by Amazon.com, Apple and CVS health.
