1,429 enroll during exchange’s grace period

A one-month grace period designed to allow Connecticut residents who were unaware of tax penalties they would face for being uninsured resulted in 1,429 enrollments, the state’s health insurance exchange Access Health CT said.

Those residents will face a federal tax penalty for 2014, but will be able to avoid it for the 2015 tax year, Access Health CEO Jim Wadleigh said in a statement.

The Affordable Care Act’s fines for the uninsured are getting bigger.

Those who didn’t have coverage in 2014 faced a fine of the greater of $95 or 1 percent of income.
