13 CT firms taking Australian trade mission

The U.S. Department of Commerce is taking 13 Connecticut businesses on a trade mission to Australia, trying to increase exports and raise Nutmeg State awareness Down Under.

The mission will include a tourism-focused event held in Sydney promoting the tastes and sights of Connecticut, hosted by a Mark Twain impersonator, said Anne Evans, Commerce district director. Those tastes and sights include Munson’s Chocolates, Jake’s Wayback Burgers, and the Maple Syrup Producers Association.

The Commerce Department has pitched Australia as a stepping stone into the Asian market, where Connecticut companies can get used to work on that side of the world with a similar culture and language.

The 14 Connecticut firms taking the mission are:

  • Hartford accounting firm Marcum
  • Hartford law firm Edwards Wildman
  • Cheshire restaurant group Jake’s Franchising
  • Meriden aerospace manufacturer Jonal Labs
  • Groton submarine maker Electric Boat
  • Manchester aerospace manufacturer Prometheus Inc.
