$1.2M to career-track 180 Hfd. citizens

A trio of nonprofit foundations has donated $1.2 million to the city of Hartford to provide career programming to 180 of the city’s young residents, the city says.

Mayor Pedro E. Segarra announced Thursday that the city’s Hartford Opportunity Youth Collaborative (HOYC) received grants from the Social Innovation Fund, Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and NBCUniversal Foundation.

The grants will fund career programming for 180 young men of color and young mothers in Hartford between the ages of 18 and 24, HOYC director Kim Oliver said in a joint statement.

“Investing in the futures of our young men of color and young mothers is critical to maintaining a competitive workforce and to the overall development of our City,” said Segarra, who chairs the two-year-old collaborative.
