The federal government said it will award $1.2 million in brownfields cleanup and assessment grants to four Connecticut municipalities and organizations.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said grants will go to the following:
- Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments, $400,000 for brownfields assessment;
- Shelton, $200,000 for brownfields cleanup;
- and Norwich, $384,000 for brownfields assessment.
In addition, the Waterbury-based Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board will receive $200,000 to train 42 people for environmental jobs.
The grants are part of an overall $16 million EPA funding round across New England.
