$10M for CT stem cell researchers

The state has awarded nearly $10 million in grants to 18 Connecticut stem cell research teams, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s office announced.

The 18 grantees — largely based at UConn and Yale — were selected from 111 applications received by the Connecticut Stem Cell Research Advisory Committee, officials said.

The largest grant of $1.2 million was awarded to Joseph Craft, a principal investigator at Yale studying the role of induced pluripotent stem cells in human lupus.

First created in 2005, the stem cell research program is administered by the state Department of Public Health. It allocates $10 million per year.
