Washington insurance commissioner Mike Kreidler said he has fined four insurance subsidiaries of The Hartford for overcharging thousands of residents in that state.
The overcharges affected nearly 4,800 auto policies between 2009 and 2013.
Hartford Accident and Indemnity Co., Hartford Casualty Insurance Co., Hartford Insurance Co. of the Midwest and Trumbull Insurance Co. have issued refunds totaling more than $1 million, including 8 percent interest.
“To their credit — and as required by law — the companies self-reported the error that led to these overcharges,” Kreidler said in a statement. “They also promptly agreed to issue the refunds.”
Hartford spokeswoman Heather Serignese confirmed that the errors were self-reported and said the company was pleased to have resolved the matter.
