Session 2: Best Practices Roundtable: Supporting Social Justice, Public Health and Economic Development in the Emerging Northeast Cannabis Industry

Session 2 will be held from 11:15 am – 12:30pm. Our panelists will be discussing what they have learned in their respective states throughout the process of cannabis legalization, recommendations for other states based on how their own legalization efforts have gone so far, and how their states feel they have been moving towards their social equity goals- including the success and shortcomings so far. This session includes panelists Jeff Brown, Shawn Collins, Michelle Seagull and Tremaine Wright, with Alison Malloy as moderator.

Alison Malloy is the Director of Investments at CT Innovations. Alison is responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, structuring investment terms and accelerating portfolio companies through active board participation. Shawn Collins serves as the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission. Executive Director Collins has helped establish Massachusetts as a regional and national leader in the implementation of safe, effective, and equitable cannabis policy, while simultaneously building out and overseeing the operations of the East Coast’s first adult-use marijuana regulatory agency

Michelle Seagull serves as the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP). Commissioner Seagull was appointed in May 2017 and re-nominated by Governor Lamont in January 2019. From 2011 until her appointment as Commissioner, she served as the Deputy Commissioner for DCP.

Tremaine Wright serves as a Chairperson on the New York State Cannabis Control Board.Ms. Wright is a former member of the New York State Assembly who thereafter served as the first Director of the DFS Statewide Office of Financial Inclusion and Empowerment. Ms. Wright is an attorney, entrepreneur, small business owner and activist who has dedicated her career to empowering and creating opportunities for her neighbors and her community.
