GoNetspeed expands local fiber network, Comcast boosts speed

Fiber internet provider GoNetspeed announced this week it has expanded its service area in New Haven County to Branford, Cheshire, Naugatuck, Waterbury and Wolcott.

The company said it had invested $22 million to install 369 miles of infrastructure to serve 50,000-plus additional homes and businesses.

GoNetspeed’s service is now available in 8,900 locations in Branford, 5,000 locations in Cheshire and 12,800 locations in Naugatuck. In Waterbury, the company plans to serve 18,500 customers by the end of fall.

GoNetspeed CEO Richard Clark said, “The importance of high speed, reliable Internet access has never been more evident than it is right now.”

N.Y.-based GoNetspeed announced in May it would expand in the New Haven area, after setting up networks in West Haven, Hamden and Milford.

Comcast boosts Internet speeds

Comcast announced this week it would be increasing internet speeds for its Xfinity customers across the Northeast. The upgraded service features download speeds up to 2 gigabits per second and five- to ten-times faster upload speeds.

The higher speeds will be rolled out in the coming weeks and is the second speed upgrade for Northeast customers this year, according to Comcast.

Comcast Northeast Division President Kevin Casey said, “Through advanced digital network innovation, we are again evolving our network to provide faster speeds for customers and are excited to begin rolling out a multi-gig speed tier to customers in the Northeast.”
